Chapter 4

Leasah was sitting on a swing when Lucaus burst out of the school. The sun was shining down on the school grounds like a brat with a magnifying glass frying ants on the sidewalk. Lucaus saw Leasah and ran up to her, she gave one of her cute perky smiles.
“Soo…” Leasah began but she stop when she saw Lucaus’s pendent. He saw a weird glint in her eyes and a slight twitch.
“So how is your aunt?” She asked quickly letting go of a held in breath.
“She’s leaving for a business conference tomorrow morning.”
“So you’ll be home alone?” leasah asked so innocently.
“Yeah…” Lucaus replied. It got silent. “Well...bye.” Lucaus said awkwardly. As he left Leasah caught a more clear site of the green glassy pendant dangling from his neck.
“Wait!” she shouted in a weird voice. “What is that?” her voice sounded a bit shaky like she already knew but wasn't sure.
Lucaus looked down and saw that he’s pendant was hanging out still.
“Oh this well it’s… just ...umm…” Lucaus was struggling for words to say he had never shone anyone his pendant before, except for the shrink only because he felt like he could trust her.
“It’s a family heirloom.” Lucaus made the words fast and nervous. He put the pendant into his shirt.
“Can I see it.” Leasah pleaded
“Well I’m not supposed to show anyone-” Lucaus was abruptly cut off by Leasah.
“Can I See It.” she commanded, Leasah had a little edge in her voice.
“I guess,” he shrugged, pulling out the green orb. “no harm can come of it.”
Leasah drew back. She had the look of terror and fear. She looked as if it were the end of a plan or something.
“Can I hold it?” she asked trying to calm her emotions of fear.
“No, I can’t let you. You see I -”
“Let me hold it.” She commanded as her voice raised and she was visibly shaking now.
“No I can’t. I made a promise.”  Lucaus sternly said getting a little scared. Leasah never acts like this.
“Just give me it now!” she screeched reaching out to in a swift motion.
Lucaus stumbled backwards and tripped falling to his back. He quickly rolled to his feet before Leasah could jump on him. The boy scrambled to his feet and started running. Leasah was soon hot on his tail.
Lucaus turned the corner to run along the school’s sidewalk by the road. He looked back in perplexed fear; Leasah was still hot on his trail. Lucaus heard beeping of a car horn beside him, it was the shrink.
“Need a lift?” Karren asked while driving at Lucaus’s running speed.
“Yeah!” Lucaus agreed as he stopped to get into the orange convertible mustang.
Lucaus fumbled with the seat belt as the psychologist sped off down the road away from Leasah.
“What happened back there?” Karren asked with pure curiosity masking her face.
“I don’t know, Leasah saw my pendant and said she wanted it. I told her no and she went haywire.” Lucuas explained in confusion. “It is very unlike her to do something like that.”
Karren had the look of grave realization on her face, but she quickly hid it in a nice smile. “I will take you home.” she said kindly making quick glances in the rear view mirror.
It was a short awkward, silent ride back to Lucaus’s house. The funny thing about the whole ride was not did Lucaus tell the shrink where he lived. It was close to dinner time when the shrink pulled into Lucaus’s driveway.
The front yard was your typical front yard you had you flower bed that surrounded a white house that had a red shingle roof. There was a stone angel covering it’s face in the flower bed, along with red, yellow, and pink flowers. The front door was red with white stripes on it.  In it’s frame stood a oldish looking woman. She had gray white hair that was tied up into a bun that sat on  top of her head like a bird on a neat nest. She had a worried looking scowl on her slightly wrinkled face. Her eyes were a kind hazel shining with a protective glimmer in them.
“Thank you.” Lucaus gratefully admitted.
“Any time. “ Karren  Andrawn smiled as she pulled out of the driveway and sped off down the street.
“Where have you been!” an angry voice scowled from behind. “You should have been home 20 minutes ago.”
Lucaus mumbled. “ I’m sorry.”
“Get inside and wash up,” his aunt pushed him into the house. “then eat and get to bed.”
“But I-” Lucaus started to protest.
“Now!”  the woman growled at Lucaus. Lucaus did just that.
